Betrayal – The act of thwarting a person’s trust, revealing information in violation of confidence, or failing to honor a promise.

Josiah knows all about betrayal. In the glamorous Bluegrass world of oak-cured bourbon, antebellum mansions, and Thoroughbred horse farms, betrayals never die—never remain hidden. The dark and bloody land called Kentucky eventually gives up its secrets from its dark, loamy soil, laying them bare for all to see.

The day starts out innocently with Josiah visiting Hunter, her boyfriend, and his new farm assistant, Palley. The young man tells Josiah of his desire to enter the demolition derby at the county fair. Ever since Palley received his driver’s license, he has been waiting to compete, but he needs an old beater of a car to enter.

Josiah tells Palley he is welcome to use an old jalopy that’s been gathering dust in an unused barn on her property. Josiah and an excited Palley travel to her shed. Pulling off an old tarp, they examine the car until they find—you guessed it—a body in the back. Whose body is it? How did it get there? Josiah is on the trail of murder again. In the mysterious Bluegrass, there’s justice, and then there is Josiah’s justice!

About Abigail Keam

Abigail Keam is an award-winning and Amazon best-selling author who writes the Josiah Reynolds Mystery Series about a Southern female beekeeper turned amateur sleuth living in the glamorous world of oak-cured bourbon, antebellum mansions, and Thoroughbred farms.

Tagline – Mystery With A Shot Of Bourbon!

Tagline – There’s justice, and then there is Josiah’s justice!

Besides loving history, Kentucky bourbon and chocolate, Abigail loves honeybees and for many years made her living by selling honey at a farmers’ market like her protagonist, Josiah Reynolds. She is an award-winning beekeeper who has won many honey awards at the Kentucky State Fair including the Barbara Horn Award, which is given to beekeepers who rate a perfect 100 in a honey competition.

Miss Abigail has taken her knowledge of beekeeping to create a fictional beekeeping protagonist, Josiah Reynolds, who solves murder mysteries in the Bluegrass. While Miss Abigail’s novels are for enjoyment, she discusses the importance of a local sustainable food economy and land management for honeybees and other creatures.

She currently lives on the Kentucky River in a metal house with her husband and various critters. She still has honeybees.

Q&A With the Author:

What was your inspiration for writing this book?

I had a friend describe a betrayal by her best friend and how devastated she was.  Heartbroken is the word I would use. I was looking for a hook for my next Josiah Reynolds  mystery when it occurred to me that the acts of betrayal (large and small) would make for a good mystery. There are three major betrayals in Death By Betrayal, and they cross at the end. Haven’t we all had betrayals in our lives? Usually from those we love?

What did you enjoy most about writing this book?

I always love writing about Josiah Reynolds.  I love her “take-no-sass” attitude. I love that she is flawed like a real person. I love her kindness to animals and her love for her friends. I love that Josiah is not always nice, but fair. I love that she is hard-working and struggles like the rest of us. I love that she is smart. Josiah is real to me, and I would like to have her as a friend. I know that I could count on her.

Do you have any other books you are working on that you can tell us about?

Asa is Mad! —an Asa Reynolds short story has just been released. My next Josiah Reynolds Mystery will be Death By Trauma which will be out by Christmas. Also my 1930s Mona Moon Mystery—Murder Under A Cold Moon—will be out this fall.

Can you tell us about what you have planned for the future?

I will keep writing as long as I can—as long as my readers enjoy my stories.

Anything more you would like to say to your readers and fans?
