From author Lena Gregory comes a tasty new mystery with a killer twist…
Danika Delaney is thrilled to have taken over her uncle Jimmie’s old fashioned malt shop on eastern Long Island and is working hard to make it her own. In an effort to increase business, Danika invites a mystery writer to the Coffee & Cream Café for a discussion and book signing. Things seem to be going well, until a guest shows up and confronts the author, accusing him of plagiarizing his work. Embarrassed by the incident, Danika goes to the inn where the writer is staying the following morning, hoping to apologize and offer him another chance to return. What she finds instead is his dead body—beside a cup of poisoned coffee! Now it’s up to Danika to find out who wanted to silence the author… before the killer decides to write Danika a not-so-happy ending!
About Lena Gregory
Lena grew up in a small town on the south shore of eastern Long Island, but she recently traded in cold, damp, gray winters for the warmth and sunshine of central Florida, where she now lives with her husband, three kids, son-in-law, and four dogs. Her hobbies include spending time with family, reading, and walking. Her love for writing developed when her youngest son was born and didn’t sleep through the night. She works full time as a writer and a freelance editor and is a member of Sisters in Crime.
Q&A With the Author
What was your inspiration for writing this book?
My first job was working early mornings in my grandfather’s deli in a small town on eastern Long Island. I can still remember getting up at four in the morning to go in and stock shelves, the scent of kaiser rolls with butter and bacon frying, and the gossip. Boy was there gossip. I have such fond memories of my grandfather standing behind the counter, leaning forward, enjoying shooting the breeze with customers (the inspiration for Uncle Jimmie). My grandmother knew everyone by name, and assumed everyone else did too. She used to start off a conversation with, “Can you believe Jeremy did this, or did you hear Katrina did that?” As if you would automatically know who those people were.
When I decided to write a small café themed cozy, one that took place in a town similar to the one I grew up in, I wanted to capture that feel, to share that sense of community, of knowing your neighbors. But there’s a down side to that too. Not only do you know what all of your neighbors are doing, they are all aware of your deepest, darkest secrets as well.
What did you enjoy most about writing this book?I introduced a new character in this book, Eli, and I adore him. He’s full of energy, kind of clumsy, and very fun to write. While I enjoyed writing him into this book, he plays a much bigger role in the next book, Double Scoop of Murder.
Do you have any other books you are working on that you can tell us about?Right now, I am working on the eight All-Day Breakfast Café Mystery and the fourth Coffee & Cream Café Mystery. While it’s fun to get back to Gia and the gang in Boggy Creek, Florida, I also can’t wait to return to Long Island and Danika and her friends.
Can you tell us about what you have planned for the future?Right now, my plans include at least three more All-Day Breakfast Café Mysteries. I’m hoping to do at least four more Coffee & Cream Café Mysteries and a couple more Mini-Meadows Mysteries. After that, I’d like to return to the Bay Island Psychic Mysteries for at least one or two more books. I also have an idea for a new cozy series I’d love to explore, but that’s on the back burner while I work on all of these. Plus, I have four romantic suspense novels contracted that I write under a pen name, three young adult fantasies, and a middle grade fantasy series I’m working on. Did I mention I really love writing?
Anything more you would like to say to your readers and fans?I would love to say thank you so very much to my readers and fans. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate all of you. I am so thrilled that you enjoy my stories, and I hope you’ll enjoy all of my new ones as well.
Thank you so much for having me!
