A Cop's Necklace
A Cops Necklace
by Norm Meech
GENRE: Thriller/Mystery
It has been nearly a year since the murder and kidnapping happened at the McPherson mansion. Everything has returned to being quiet and normal around the mansion until a package is delivered to Alex McNeil.
Inside the carefully wrapped package, Alex finds an expensive-looking antique necklace. There is also a note inside the package that reads, "Mr. McNeil, you have exhibited the ability of being a good investigator. Find out who stole the necklace, and you will find out who murdered her."
Investigation determines that the necklace belonged to missing Bisson City police sergeant Jennifer Thomson, who was presumed to have been kidnapped and murdered 10 years ago. Alex takes a leave of absence from the McPherson mansion, and is hired by the Bisson City police force on a short-term-employment contract. Alex teams up with his old police partner Stephanie Foster, and they renew their close friendship while investigating what happened to their missing colleague, Sergeant Thomson.
Excerpt:
I fell to sleep as soon as my head hit my pillow. It was a deep sleep and at some point, the dream started again. Stephanie was helping Jennifer prepare for her promotional examination. They were studying police procedures, first they were in some type of library, then they were in someone’s office. A giant hand reaches out from the sky and grabs, Jennifer.
The hand is holding her firmly as she is screaming help me Alex, help me. The hand throws her into some type of room, and she is still screaming help me, help me. I ‘am staring into Jennifer’s eyes and I ‘am trying to run to help her, but I can't seem to get any traction, as door slams shut. I woke up in a sweat looking around the bedroom. The alarm clock said it was 2.10am
My Thoughts and Review:
A Cop’s Necklace was such a great read! Those who know me, know that I love a good mystery - specifically a cozy mystery. While A Cop’s Necklace is not a cozy, but more of a thriller - I truly loved this book. Ten years have gone by since Sargeant Jennifer Thomson has gone missing. At this point, she is presumed dead. Her case is a cold case that needs to be solved. Alex McNeil is a retired detective. He receives a package at his door that contains a very unique necklace and a note that reads ‘Find the person who stole this necklace and you will find out who murdered her’.
Alex comes out of retirement and along with his former partner embark on this journey to get answers. Full of twists and turns, and just when you think the story is over - something happens and it continues. The ending is completely unexpected but will leave you, the reader, feeling good. My rating: 5 out of 5
