Legend of the Tragik
Legend of the Tragik
by Chad L.E McGhie
GENRE: Fiction-Fantasy
Not all fires are welcoming.
After decades of war, this had never been more true for the neighboring kingdoms of Tristren and Zemotze. Locked in a tense armistice, there was a promise of a treaty in the air. However, as the Blademage Volgare flees from his enemies, he can see through the wall of deception that clouds the land.
Meanwhile, in the bustling city of Brigandee, the shadow of the weapon known as the Tragik has crept in closer than comfortable. The young man named Hinro Gaskette lives a simple life, expecting little other than to be a soldier like his father before him.
Those expectations are shattered, however, when tragedy awakens a nightmarish power from within . . .
Excerpt:
“Funeral preparations are being made for those that did not survive.”
“I feel...I do not feel that injured, considering,” Hinro nodded slowly, replying as he rose, scratching his head awkwardly. Amy had a shocked gaze upon her, and people were glancing at them nervously now as they passed by… some longer than others. “I apparently made an impression.”
Standing with him, Amy’s face hardened. “Despite your inability to explain how you did it, I suppose you are the hero of the night. If it was not for you, none of us would have survived to see the morning.”
It was difficult to convince him of that, however: the grief was too heavy in his heart. Hinro looked around at the death that surrounded them, shaking his head. “I am no hero.”
As they made their way towards their home on the hill, debris was strewn in every direction. Some gave Hinro a nod and a quick word of condolence, making sure that he was well and his wounds were not too grave. “It is miraculous you are even standing,” a wounded soldier commented as they passed, eyes wide with an admiring fear.” Barging through blades and blunted weapons…you felled countless enemies. You are worthy of your father’s name.”
Nodding in thanks, Hinro could say nothing more, tears swelling as they pressed on.
It was somehow more peaceful at the top of the hill, the noise of the city below their earshot. As the two siblings walked into their house, a shocked look upon their faces that it had been unharmed by the battle and flames. They sat down at the empty table, the interior of their home eerily quiet and hollow.

Q&A With the Author
What did you enjoy most about writing this book?
I enjoyed the world and character building the most whenever I was writing Legend of the Tragik - writing fantasy allows for a vast amount of freedom that is unrivaled in other genres. Making them believable as if they were real people can be intimidating for some, but I am enthralled by it. Creating systems of science and magic to help explain how things occur allows the imagination the thrive whenever the real world’s rules are so rigid.
Do you have any other books you are working on that you can tell us about?
I am nearing completion on my next work which is, ironically, not a fantasy novel - it’s actually a modern drama that deals largely with mental health. Not only is it a novel, I also have a hip-hop album that I’ve written and produced in its entirety to go along with it: Hot Pretty Blues will feature song titles that are also the titles of chapters. I have been working on this project for a long time, and the ambition doesn’t end there, as we hope to film a pilot T.V episode to go with it as well.
My mountain of work doesn’t end there: I have also been hired by a client from England to adapt their film script into a novel, which I will be finishing as I release Hot Pretty Blues. It’s an exciting, challenging project in its own right, but of course, I also have the sequel to Legend of the Tragik well underway as well. I have plenty of other ideas, but one can only write so many books and work on so many projects at once,
Can you tell us about what you have planned for the future?
Aside from writing, the music side of my brand keeps me busy: I am already scheduled for a few performances and events this year, and I hope to expand that side of my business by hiring some new staff. I already mentioned Hot Pretty Blues. I still have to work a day job (or three) as well to keep afloat, and on top of it all, my crazy family and beautiful chaotic children keep me ballistically busy and endlessly entertained.
How long have you been writing?
I realized my passion for writing in the third grade - I started seriously writing stories then, including my friends in little comic book stories. They all argued about what powers they had, if I recall correctly. Pleasing everyone is impossible!
Anything more you would like to say to your readers and fans?
If there is anything you dream and aspire to do, don’t wait to turn them into the reality that you live in everyday. Some people around me think I’ve accomplished a lot, but in truth, I am only just beginning a new path that I know will take hard work and dedication every step of the way. Life’s only guarantee is that it will throw challenges your way, and choices determine how we face those challenges - I know, I sound cliche and old. But in all honesty, some of the most cliche things hold truth, carrying many lessons. One of the greatest lessons that I’ve learned, is that the goals, ambitions, and dreams that are worth most to you, will always be the most challenging to obtain.
