by Zhanna Hamilton
Science Fiction
The Blank Series blurb:

Blurb for Blank:
Madam Doesn't Like That (Short Story 4 of The Blank Series):
An unexpected visit from sex bots turns into a secret mission with deadly consequences.
Excerpt:
Arlo read a large sign passing by on the boulevard.
KILL ALL BOTS!
“What the hell is Razor doing?”
“She’ll be fine. She does it all the time.”
“Does what all the time? Never mind. Don’t tell me. We have to stop her.”
Zen crossed her legs, tapped the console with long, golden nails and stared past the protest.
“You stop her.”
He watched Razor lift a helmet off the ground and put it on, pumping her fist as she walked into the chanting crowd.
“I can’t be in a protest, Zen. I have a career to protect.”
“Sounds inconvenient.”
“Don’t we have somewhere to be?”
“And we’ll get there.”
“This is ridiculous,” he said, stepping out of the pod. He tried to spot her. Nothing but angry strangers. Walking towards the crowd, he felt the electric energy of frustration.
“PEOPLE OVER BOTS! PEOPLE OVER BOTS!”
He stood at the edge of the moving spectacle and scanned for Razor.
Against the grain of the crowd, he spotted the oversized biker’s helmet with flowing blonde locks extending beyond the edges. She grabbed a bat off the ground near a closed psychedelics store.
“Razor, no!” he yelled, his voice drowned by the raging chorus.

Q&A With the Author:
When did you first consider yourself to be a writer?
I’ve been writing fiction and poetry since I was a child. As a kid, I remember scribbling poems about cats, stories about my Barbies and even Disney spin-offs (nothing I would pitch to Disney today).
During my teen years, I wrote dark fantasy on an old typewriter (yes, there were vampires involved) and I kept writing poetry. One day, I lost that hand-written poetry journal in a house flood--which felt like a death to me. All my poetry from adolescence... gone. I still remember some of those poems by heart.
The answer to your question is I’ve always felt like a writer, just not always like a very good one.
What advice do you have for a new writer?
You are on a unique journey that’s not going to look like anyone else’s path. There is no need for comparison.
Read everything. Write. Rewrite. Cry, even... but keep writing anyway.
What is the easiest part of the writing process for you?
The easiest part of the writing process is when the story is still a movie playing in my head and I haven’t written anything yet.
What is your favorite part of this story?
The Blank Series is a story about resilience and the fight for freedom. These are themes I love. They are timeless and as relevant now as they were in the past. Even though the story is set in the future with evolved technology, human nature remains the same.
Which Character was the most fun to write about? Why?
Razor, the sex bot from the Golden Ratio. I can always count on her to be unapologetically wild.
Pixel, the digital cat, is also a lot of fun. He’s playful and cute, but morphs into a lethal weapon (a black jaguar) when needed.
Which Character was the hardest to write about? Why?
Aura Swain, the former human turned military spy bot. There’s a hot-and-cold element to her. When I write her, I don’t always know if she’ll be vulnerable or venomous. She often surprises me.
