MAIZIE’S AFTER A COSTUMER’S KILLER WHO’S SEW EVIL, IT’S SHEAR MADNESS…

#DisguisedDetectiving Maizie Albright might have once played a (teenage) private investigator on TV, but she’s now living the part. Her (mother’s) name is on her business cards. Her (boss’s) appointment book is brimming with new clients. And her bank account has grown large enough to finally trade in her dirt bike for an actual new (pre-owned) vehicle.

And then there’s Wyatt Nash. Love of her life. Future father of her…

Wait.

And then there’s Wyatt Nash. Future partner in her business. Because Nash is now working for her father. Not the private investigation business that’s waiting for Nash to get out of the red so they can get on with…

Just what, Maizie isn’t so sure.

But she is sure about one thing. She’s ready to take on her own cases. To prove to (herself) her friends and family, she’s more than just a (washed-up actress) assistant private eye. And when Maizie finds her costume designer friend killed during a masquerade gala, it’s the opportunity Maizie hoped she’d never get. An investigation into an old friend’s murder. One that’s put her new friend, Rhonda, in jeopardy.

While the police begin their inquiries, Maizie starts her own case. She’s needling Black Pine’s wealthy do-gooders, threading through lies, stitching together clues, and ripping out false leads. Her investigation may cost Maizie her job, her relationships, and her life. But by unspooling the truth, Maizie’s darned if they stop her from catching a killer who’s sew evil, it’s shear madness.

Character Guest Post

My name is Maizie Albright and I’m on the hunt for a killer.

Okay, that sounded a little dramatic. But my former career was acting, so drama comes naturally to me.

Let me try again.

I’m Maizie Albright, ex-celebrity, now private investigator, and I’m investigating a murder.

Actually, I’m still an apprentice, not an actual investigator.

In Georgia, you need two years of apprenticeship before you can get a PI license. I began my apprenticeship with Wyatt Nash at Nash Security Solutions. Mainly because he was the only PI in town. Now I work for Annie Cox. She was hired by my mother after she bought out Nash Security Solutions and changed the name to Albright Security Solutions, then moved the business a block away into an equally old building renovated to look like Sam Spade’s office. Minus the Maltese Falcon.

Now Wyatt Nash works for my father doing his security work. It’s a long story, but Nash has had a doozy of a time since meeting me. But with an ex-wife like Jolene, he probably had a doozy of a time before meeting me, too. I think he’s one of those guys with bad luck.

Did I mention we’re dating? He’s super yummy. Despite all the bad luck.

Anyhoo, I work for Albright Security Solutions. My boss, Annie Cox, is pretty cool. Although not Charlie’s Angels cool. Like a wise-cracking, gum-snapping, highly efficient young woman who grew up around cops. Which is all true.

Now I mainly do background checks, honey traps, and cheater surveillance. We never do crime-crime stuff, like murder investigations. Although some of the spouses who hire us would probably like to murder their cheaters, if you know what I mean.

This murder investigation doesn’t fall under Albright Security Solutions’ regular gigs. It’s not even a paying gig. Meaning, I haven’t told my boss about it. I’m moonlighting. For free. Because the victim was my friend, Lorena Cortez, a costume designer who retired and started a charity. She’d asked me to help out at the opening event — a masquerade gala.

My friend, Rhonda, and I went to Lorena’s house to bring her to the event. And found he murdered.

Rhonda’s not taking it well. Our other friend Tiffany insisted I should investigate. I thought it was a good idea. I was a little tired of background checks and cheater surveillance and ready for something bigger.

Although investigating my friend’s murder might be a little too big. A little too personal. At least that’s what Wyatt Nash thinks. Ditto from our friend, Detective Ian Mowry, who’s in charge of the police investigation.

They might be right. But I’m determined to find out who killed Lorena Cortez. Even if it kills me.

Hopefully not literally.
