18 CALIBER, Maizie Albright Star Detective Mystery by Larissa Reinhart
About 18 Caliber
LUCKY IN LOVE AND LUCKY TO BE ALIVE. UNTIL NOW.
Maizie’s mixing with international stars, spies, and her mother’s dark past in her sixth case in The Wall Street Journal bestselling series.
"Hollywood glitz meets backwoods grit in this fast-paced ride on D-list celeb Maizie Albright's waning star. Sassy, Sexy, and Fun.” — Phoebe Fox, author of the Breakup Doctor series.
#WannabeDetectiving While ex-celebrity Maizie Albright’s dreams of becoming a for-real private investigator have not exactly been dashed, they have been slightly thwarted. Her ex-manager and still-mother, Vicki Albright, has taken the helm of Nash Security Services while rebuilding her entertainment management company. Sometimes with the same clients. Like Chinese action star, Lili Liang, who’s making the film Unlucky 18 in Georgia.
Thus far, Lili’s living up to her movie title. Her kung fu coach is missing. Her boyfriend’s disappeared. And her director, who gambled on her with the part, might be gambling with her life.
Maizie’s luck is also running out. Maizie and Nash find themselves struggling to balance a new partnership and new relationship between missing persons’ cases, wild goose chases, and tracking a bullet into dangerous places. Sometimes it’s enough to make a girl NOT want to put a ring on it. When it comes to facing an 18-caliber killer, what will Maizie put up as the target? Her heart or her life?
You may wonder why two private investigators — or at least one PI and his assistant/mentoree (me) — are screwing in doorbell security cameras onto movie star trailers instead of chasing down cheating husbands and serving subpoenas.
A question I often ask myself. The answer is Vicki Albright.
Who is Vicki Albright? My ex-manager and owner of Albright Entertainment Management. Also the woman who bought Nash Security Solutions, the PI firm once owned by Wyatt Nash, my mentor, boss, and man-of-my-dreams.
And who are you, you might ask?
I’m Maizie Albright. You might know me from the hit show a few years back, Julia Pinkerton, Teen Detective. Or even farther back, Kung Fu Kate. Or more recently, All Is Albright (unfortunately). And you probably heard about my little legal slip-up that sent me from Hollywood back to Black Pine, Georgia, where I’m living at Daddy’s and had to start a new career. It was all over E! News, TMZ, People, and The National Enquirer (unfortunately).
Silver linings—because of Julia Pinkerton, Teen Detective, I’ve always wanted to become a private investigator. Which led me to Nash Security Solutions. And convincing Wyatt Nash to mentor me. Which he did. Eventually.
Wyatt Nash is not only my mentor and boss, but also the love of my life. He’s chivalrous, kind, courageous, intelligent, and has Paul Newman-blue eyes. I’d love to be his dream girl, but as my mentor, he’d rather be the gentleman and wait until my two years of training are done, which is how long it takes in Georgia to get a PI license (unfortunately).
Another misfortune, Vicki Albright is also my mother. I believe, not only is she trying to ruin my life, but she’s also trying to ruin Nash’s life. Now that I no longer act, she has found other ways to try and coerce me back to the small and silver screen. I’d hoped she was helping us when she bought Nash’s PI business when he was close to Chapter-11 (Turns out I was more stupid than hopeful). She now uses us for her celebrity clients. To do things like install doorbell cameras on their trailers.
However, her newest client, Chinese action star Lili Liang has asked me to find her missing kung fu trainer. Nash and I are ecstatic to finally have a real investigation. Although we’re a little worried, that Vicki might be involved in the disappearance. Like “dirty business dealings that lead to murder” kind of involvement.
Our new to-do list (that doesn’t involve a tool box):
First: Find Master Xiang Xi.
Second: Figure out who shot Vicki’s door.
Third: Learn how to manage my ex-manager and still-mother.
And possibly save her bacon when the pig hits the fan. Which it always does when you’re dealing with mysterious shootings, disappearances, and shady dealings.
Let’s hope Nash and I can check off this list while staying alive!
Thanks for listening!
